American scientists have developed a new cancer drug “AOH1996” which is said to effectively treat several types of cancer. The first patient got it right away.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women. While some types of cancer now have a real chance of cure if caught early, others remain deadly. More importantly, medicine has finally found an effective treatment method against one of the most common causes of death.

Scientists at City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research centers in the US, have now taken an important step in this direction with the new anti-cancer tablet “AOH1996”. AOH1996 is named after Anna Olivia Healey, a girl born in 1996 who unfortunately could not beat cancer.

Cancer poison, harmless to healthy cells

The first clinical test of the drug proved to be effective, according to the researchers. The drug is being tested in a patient with recurrent tumors. The organization said he was doing well. The compound has been shown in preclinical research to be effective in treating breast, prostate, brain, ovarian, cervical, skin and lung cancer cells.

The cancer drug targets a specific protein (PCNA) that plays an important role in cell repair and proliferation. The drug not only stops the growth of human cancer cells and prevents metastasis, but is harmless to healthy cells.

The researchers expect further positive results in the study phase until 2024. However, the researchers emphasize that there is still a long way to go before it is approved for the market in Europe.
