At 02:45 CET, 59.6 percent of the nearly two million participants supported the former president’s return to Twitter, where he was banned after his supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Musk is not said to comply with the users’ request – although he added the Latin phrase “Vox Populi, Vox Dei” (“The voice of the people is the voice of God”) to the poll. Trump has more than 88 million followers on Twitter. However, he stated that he does not want to return to the online platform with the blue bird, but prefers to stay with the Truth social network, which he founded himself.

“Trump has not made a decision yet”

Hours earlier, Musk announced that the accounts of comedian Kathy Griffin, psychologist Jordan Peterson and the conservative parody website Babylon Bee had been “restored.” “Trump hasn’t made a decision yet,” the high-tech billionaire continued.

Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in late October. Critics fear it could drastically curtail the fight against the spread of hate speech and fake news on Twitter.

A few months ago, Musk caused a stir when he announced that he wanted to end Trump’s ban after taking over Twitter.
