Trump’s Twitter profile was back online on Saturday. “The people have spoken. Trump will be restored,” Musk tweeted on Saturday. He has previously let users of the online service vote in a poll on whether they support Trump’s return.

More than fifteen million users participated in the survey and 51.8 percent voted in favor. A few minutes after Musk’s announcement, Trump’s profile was visible again. The last entry was from January 8, 2021.

Trump was banned from Twitter after his supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He had more than 88 million followers on Twitter. Since the activation of his profile, the number of followers has increased rapidly.

However, Trump has previously stated that he does not want to return to the bluebird platform and prefers to stay with the Truth social network, which he founded.

Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in late October. Critics fear it could drastically curtail the fight against the spread of hate speech and fake news on Twitter.
