One court in Turkey has TV preacher to 8658 years in prison convicted. Adnan Oktar, alias Harun Yahya, is best known for hosting a show on an online channel in which he appeared surrounded by scantily clad women he called “kittens”.

The leader of the sex cult is a staunch opponent of the theory of evolution and has published dozens of controversial books under the name Harun Yahya, The Atlas of Creation. In it, he claims that the various species of living beings are the same today as they were hundreds of millions of years ago, and that life forms on Earth were created by God and have never undergone the slightest evolution.

The accusations are piling up

He and hundreds of his supporters were arrested at his home in 2018. During the arrest, Oktar told reporters that the allegations against him were “lies” and a “conspiracy by the British state” – a theme the conspiracy theorist has spoken about frequently in the past.

In January 2021, he was convicted of ten different charges, including sexual assault, theft of personal information and false imprisonment. The Court of Appeal overturned the verdict due to legal deficiencies and ordered a new trial because «BBC” writes.

The appeals court’s decision paved the way for 68 suspects to remain free due to the time remaining in the trial, while the court ordered extended detention for Oktar and his close associates.

He believes he will be released

On Wednesday, judges made a final decision on the fate of 215 suspects, including 72 in custody, dashing the hopes of Oktar, who had been confident of his release according to previous hearings.

The verdict was handed down on the following charges: operating a criminal organization, sexual abuse, denial of educational rights, torture, kidnapping and illegal retention of personal data. Children were said to be among the victims of abuse.

In total, Oktar was sentenced to 8,658 years because the court believed he should be sentenced for crimes committed by his followers as a cult leader. Last year the verdict was 1075 years and three months.

They are said to have exploited the religious sensibilities of their followers and gathered intelligence to slander cult members who wanted to break away from them. Oktar also allegedly systematically sexually assaulted members of the sect.
