They are not about winning
Kadyrov and Prigozhin pursue these goals behind Putin’s back
While Kremlin chief Putin is busy waging war against Ukraine, two men in the background continue to expand their power. Wagner boss Prigozhin and Chechen leader Kadyrov are getting stronger. what are you up to
Wagner boss Prigozhin continues to expand his power behind the back of Vladimir Putin (r.).
They are considered unscrupulous, calculating and ice-cold: Wagner’s boss Yevgeny Prigoshchin (61) and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov (46). They both have a special nickname. Prigozhin is known as “Putin’s Chef” because he made his fortune catering for the Russian military. Kadyrov is considered “Putin’s bloodhound” because of his loyalty to the Kremlin and willingness to go to war for the Russian president.
They should actually be supporting Putin, but the truth is that these two men are using the opportunity to expand their power.
According to military experts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), it is the “siloviki”, senior intelligence and military officials, who are increasing their influence. Not to win the war. They deal with “personal interests”. Mainly “Putin’s cook” and “Putin’s blood dog”.
Millions in the account, American elections rigged
According to ISW, Wagner’s boss is currently building several training centers in Ukraine to attract more fighters. The men are not supposed to fight in the Russian army, but on Prigozhin’s side. At the end of October, “Putin’s Koch” also began to build an independent fortification in the Belgorod region, nicknamed the “Wagner Line”.
He also repeatedly attacks St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglow (66) and opened his own center in the city. ISW suspects they are “trying to infiltrate the city’s business community.” “Putin’s chef” is already a powerful businessman today and has millions on his account. Now there is more money left.
Prigozhin continues to present himself as Russia’s strongman in foreign policy, only admitting on Monday that he meddled in the US election campaign. “We are involved, we are doing it and we will continue to do it,” Prigozhin said Monday on his company’s Concord online network. The statement came a day before the congressional elections in the United States. Moscow has been accused of meddling in elections for years. Sanctions were therefore imposed on Prigozhin.
Both men are currently untouchable
Ramzan Kadyrov is also trying to get rich. According to ISW, “Putin’s bloodhound” and his henchmen are “building business networks in the occupied territories.” In addition, the Chechen leader and his men are said to be making a decent living looting in Ukraine.
Kadyrov behaves similarly to Prigozhin. Both would support their own military thereby undermining the Russian military. Compared to Putin’s troops, they are well equipped and trained. At the same time, the conditions in the Russian army are catastrophic. This is exactly what works for Kadyrov and Prigozhin.
According to ISW, both “Putin’s cook” and “Putin’s bloodhound” could continue unhindered. The head of the Kremlin is urgently dependent on them and cannot punish them or limit their power. They are currently untouchable. This could end up breaking Putin’s neck. Prigozhin is marketed as the next president of Russia and therefore as Putin’s successor. (yum)
