record in California
Two billion dollar jackpot
This lottery win breaks all records: In California, the winner managed to steal $2.04 billion.
The lottery reached a record $2.4 billion.
The record amount was broken: The winner managed to steal $2.04 billion in the American lottery “Powerball”. That’s 2.01 billion Swiss francs.
The Powerball lottery jackpot of approximately two billion dollars has been hit. The winning ticket was purchased in the US state of California, the organizers announced on Tuesday. The lucky winner guessed all six numbers correctly. The odds of this happening were 1 in 292.2 million. By comparison, the risk of being struck by lightning in the United States is about one in a million.
The winning ticket was sold at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, northeast of Los Angeles. The new billionaire doesn’t seem to know how lucky he is. He has not yet responded to the message that rang in his mailbox.
If the winner wants to pay it all in cash right away, they won’t get a total of $2.04 billion due to various deductions, but around $998 million. However, the winner could also opt for an annual payment of partial amounts.
There was no winner for months
The jackpot has grown steadily since the last winner appeared in early August. In the last three months, the amount of winnings has been increasing.
The winning numbers drawn Tuesday morning at the Florida Lottery studio in Tallahassee were 10, 33, 41, 47 and 56, and the red Powerball was 10.
The numbers were actually supposed to be announced on Monday, but were delayed due to security concerns, CNN writes. Then it was said that there was no winner – until the winning ticket was announced in California. (jwg/SDA)
