Super League: But no play-offs, we get Scots mode

The clubs have decided – the fans are winning

The Scots regime is coming to Swiss football

The resistance was great. Too big. After all, Swiss professional clubs don’t want any playoffs. This is how we will be playing Scots mode from next season.

The thriller is over, the decision has been made. At a meeting at the Schweizerhof Hotel in Bern on Friday, Switzerland’s 20 professional clubs spoke out against the planned play-off regime. Twelve of them rejected the playoff option. FC Basel is one of them, as the club announced shortly before noon. Eight were in favor.

In May, at the extraordinary general meeting of the Swiss Football League (SFL), the clubs first agreed to increase the Superliga from ten to twelve teams. The “Playoffs” variant was later introduced as a new game mode – and was overwhelmingly accepted (16 out of 20 clubs).
