Donald Trump refuses to testify about the storm in the Capitol.
Lawyers for Donald Trump, 76, filed a lawsuit Friday night (local time) in Florida state court to challenge the panel’s subpoena. In it, they argue, among other things, that the committee does not have the authority to compel Trump to testify.
In addition, the subpoena violates, among other things, the ex-president’s executive privilege. This is the President’s prerogative to keep certain information secret.
The committee asked Trump to make himself available for multiple days of questioning under oath starting Monday. It was a rare escalation. After the subpoena, Trump initially left open how he would respond.
Trump infuriated his supporters
On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters violently attacked the Houses of Parliament in Washington. Congress met there to formally confirm Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
Earlier in the speech, Trump incited his supporters that massive electoral fraud had cost him his victory. Five people died as a result of the riots. A committee in the House of Representatives is dealing with the attack. (SDA)
