Graffiti artist Banksy took to Instagram to invite thieves to go to the American fashion chain Guess store in London and help themselves there. Background: In one of the shop windows, an artist’s work is used as background decoration – apparently without permission. He shared a picture of the shop window and wrote:
“Attention all thieves. Go to Guess on Regent Street. They helped themselves to my art without asking how it could be wrong to do the same to their clothes?”
A print of his painting “Flower Thrower” was displayed in the window. In addition, some of the clothes had prints of his artwork. Britain’s BBC reported that the windows at the Guess store were boarded up shortly after the post was published.
The company previously announced clothing for the winter season inspired by Banksy’s art. In the press reports it was said that cooperation with Brandalised, which licenses various graffiti designs, has begun.
The company advertises photos of Banksy’s works and products that use them on its website. However, it is not clear whether Bansky, whose identity is unknown, even agreed to this. Neither its management nor Brandalised or Guess have yet commented on the incident.
Street art also in Ukraine
On Monday, British street artist Banksy confirmed that he had created seven murals in various locations across Ukraine – including the capital Kyiv, the suburb of Irpin and the town of Borodyanka. It was reported by the “Art Newspaper”.
Last week, Banksy posted photos of work on the destroyed house on his Instagram channel. An image on his channel shows a girl against a gray wall, seemingly doing a handstand on rubble. “Borodjanka, Ukraine” read the accompanying text.
Traditionally, an artist publishes their work on their channel to confirm that they are the author. He did not inform about cooperation with Brandalised or Guess.
