Sebastian Vettel: “Everything happened very quickly” / Formula 1

In the Brazilian sprint, Sebastian Vettel had a close battle with his Aston Martin team-mate Lance Stroll, who was penalized for his driving style in a duel with the Heppenheim man.

In the sprint in Brazil, Formula 1 fans could watch not only an exciting battle at the front, but also a hard fight further down the field. For example, the two Alpine drivers Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon fought against each other, and the Aston Martin duo Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel also had a balanced fight.

Stroll showed his unsportsmanlike side, pushing the four-time champion off the piste and receiving a 10-second penalty. Law enforcement considered the Canadian’s maneuver too dangerous, and many observers felt the same way.

Vettel, however, held back from the criticism of his teammates. “It was close, but we didn’t touch,” explained the German. “Everything happened very quickly, I stabbed in and the gap closed. That’s why I went off the piste, but luckily I was able to get back on track and then use the pace I had.”

To chastise his team-mate, Vettel diplomatically said: “It’s fine, everyone is fighting for their position and of course it’s important that you defend yourself. On the other hand, you lose more than you can win. In the end, we both could have done better to get a better position for both of us. Then we’d lose less time and finish a little higher up the field.”

The 35-year-old, who will end his GP career after the season finale in Abu Dhabi, commented on his chances in the upcoming Grand Prix: “I think we have a real chance of points, but we must not forget that the Alpine riders will come back, they are usually too fast for us . But our race pace looks good.”
