Lantern doesn’t stand a chance. YB extend their lead in the table to ten points before the World Cup break.

YB – Lucerne 3:0

Credit Suisse Super League, 16. Runde, season 22/23

11/13/2022

The Young Boys secured a clear 3-0 win at home against Lucerne to go into the winter break with a comfortable 10-point lead. Only five points separate 2nd and 8th place behind them.

Christian Fassnacht, Jean-Pierre Nsame and Sandro Lauper scored as Bern secured a home win in a sold-out Wankdorf. First chaser Servette, meanwhile, went down 1-4 against bottom of the table Zurich in Letzigrund. The champions claimed their first home win since April thanks to three goals from Aiyegun Tosin.

Zurich managed to move up to four points behind Winterthur in the table, which lost 1:3 in Lugano. Zan Celar scored twice for the cup winners in the first quarter of an hour.

FC St. Gallen is in 3rd place behind YB and Servette. He celebrated a 7:2 win in Sion. GC also won the home match against FC Basel 1-0 on Saturday.

While the players had a long break from the championship until 21 January, the match in Bern in front of 31,120 spectators ended the career of referee Alain Bieri. The 43-year-old from Bern was in charge of his last of more than 350 games in the Super and Challenge League.

Referee Alain Bieri: “I’m very happy”

YB’s game against Lucerne (3:0) was the very last one for referee Alain Bieri in the Super League. In an interview with blue Sport, the outgoing referee provides information about his future.

A lantern as a guest in a cauldron

The enthusiasm in Bern is great. Wankdorf was already sold out five days before the match against FC Luzern. For the fourth time out of eight championship matches, 31,120 spectators will be in the stadium. A week ago, both Young Boys and FCL drew. However, the draws had other values. Lucerne only drew 1-1 at home against Winterthur, while the Bernese were held to a 0-0 draw in Geneva against Servette, who played nearly 80 minutes on the manside. Lucerne beat Young Boys 2-0 at home in February 2020. It was their last victory in duels with Bernački. Since then, YB have won six times in four draws.
