Sad times in Smurfland: The performer of the cult song “The Smurf Song” Vader Abraham died at the age of 87. This is reported by the Dutch media.
The Dutchman, whose real name is Pierre Kartner, became famous in 1977 with a song about blue creatures. Lately, he has been living a secluded life, not performing either on stage or in public. According to his family, he died on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 in the Dutch city of Breda. The cause of death is not given. According to “BN DeStem”, the funeral has already taken place. This happened on Friday morning.
He leaves behind a wife and a son
Vader Abraham, among others the theme song of the Finnish-Japanese animated series Moomin or the Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 1973 (“De oude muziekant” by Ben Cramer). He finished 14th with the latter. In 2010, the singer Sieneke took part in a music competition with the song he wrote “Ik ben verliefd (Sha-la-lie)” and thus did not qualify for the final.
In addition, Vader Abraham wrote songs for Heino (83, «Mary Rose»), Ireen Sheer (73, «Tonight I have a headache»), Nana Mouskouri (88, «Draussen vor der Tür») and Peter Alexander (1926–2011 , “Little Pub”).
