Economy class: Lufthansa and Swiss get 24,000 seats from Recaro

The Lufthansa Group buys seats in economy class in bulk – to the delight of the German manufacturer Recaro. Around 100 aircraft of Lufthansa and Switzerland will be equipped with it.

In the summer, Carsten Spohr announced a product quality offensive. According to the CEO of Lufthansa, this will lead to the restoration of seats in all classes in Lufthansa and Swiss. “We will install a total of 31,000 seats on our Lufthansa and Swiss aircraft,” Spohr said.

Now it’s clear: Almost 24,000 of them are economy class seats from the German manufacturer Recaro. “The Lufthansa Group has selected Recaro CL3710 and CL3810 aircraft seats to equip its economy class cabins,” the Schwäbisch Hall-based company said on Wednesday (9 November).

Adjustable headrest in six directions

The seats are to be used in around 100 Lufthansa and Swiss aircraft. Delivery of the first seats is planned for the current fourth quarter of 2022.

Recaro promises Lufthans that the CL3710’s modular design will minimize maintenance and lower operating costs. The seat has a six-position headrest with neck support. “And personal mobile devices can be conveniently stored in the folding seat storage area,” says Recaro.

The CL3810 model will be additionally equipped with the Swiss Airbus A330-300 and Lufthansa’s Boeing 747-8. Recaro promises “premium comfort upholstery with layered foam.” Good for the driver: The seat is 15 percent lighter than its predecessor, reducing fuel consumption.

Lufthansa’s premium economy seat, on the other hand, comes from Zim Aircraft Seating – read how it’s made here.
