E-commerce wants to close almost all branches

DThe electronics chain Conrad wants to close the majority of its current eleven branches. In future, private customers will shop online and new branches will be opened exclusively for business customers. The company announced it on Wednesday.

A branch in Hürth, North Rhine-Westphalia, already exclusively serves business customers. Only one of the others is to be retained, namely in Wernberg-Köblitz – just like the company headquarters in Hirschau in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria. Branches for private clients are mainly located in major cities, including Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.

Conrad is looking for locations for new branches of business customers

The announcement did not indicate the number of employees affected by the branch closures, and the company declined to answer further questions. “Of course, this step is very difficult for us,” said Ralf Bühler, CEO of Conrad Electronic. The company is in talks to find socially acceptable regulations.

According to the announcement, the reason for the branch closures is the growing shift of retail to the internet. At the same time, the company is currently looking for locations for new branches of business customers.
