Bundesliga. Urs Fischer goes down with Union in Freiburg.

Submitted: Urs Fischer and Union Berlin have no chance in Freiburg.

A fantastic calendar year ends with a brutal defeat for Urs Fischer and Union Berlin. The Köpenickers lost 4-1 in the top game of the 15th round of the Bundesliga in Freiburg.

Union Berlin has run out of steam in recent days. The amazing team, who led the Bundesliga at times, managed to pick up just one point from three games in the final week of the 2022 championship. Against Freiburg, defeat was almost certain at the start. Fischer’s team was 3-0 down after 20 minutes, missed a penalty and lost to Portugal’s Diogo Leite by sending off.

Italian Vincenzo Grifo was decisive for Freiburg. He scored all three goals in the opening phase, including two from the penalty spot. Austrian Michael Gregoritsch made it 4-0 before the break. In the table, Christian Streich’s team is in second place, four points behind Bayern Munich. Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin follow.

Widmer and Fernandes stop Sow

An even better classification eluded Eintracht Frankfurt before the winter break. Djibril Sow’s team only played 1-1 against Mainz. Mainz, with Silvan Widmer and Edimilson Fernandes, who extended his contract until 2026 at the weekend, had to settle for an equalizer in the 67th minute. Frenchman Randal Kolo Muani, who arrived on a free transfer from Nantes in the summer, scored from Mario Götze’s pass for his 15th point in his 14th Bundesliga game.
