Brazilian GP: The Alfa-Sauber man caused a moment of shock – Mercedes with a double triumph

There was a lot going on at the Brazilian GP. But from the beginning. George Russell won ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz. It was Russell’s first GP win! The 24-year-old Brit gave his German Mercedes factory racing team their first success of the year. His Russell team-mate Lewis Hamilton finished second, but he still faces the first year of his career without a Grand Prix win.

“This is just the beginning”

“What a feeling. We went through everything in 2022. Now we’re back. It doesn’t get any better. We dominated this race as a team!” Russell said after the race. And that’s just the beginning.”

Teammate Hamilton was happy for the young Briton. He said: “Russell deserves to win. In third place behind the seven-time champion and 103-time race winner was Carlos Sainz in a Ferrari ahead of team rival Charles Leclerc. Max Verstappen, who has been the world champion for a long time, made it to sixth place.

“Where was I supposed to go?

As always, Interlagos had it all. Contact between Magnussen and McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo was alerted by the safety car after just a few corners. Russell led the field ahead of Hamilton, Red Bulls Verstappen and Sergio Pérez.

Russell also won the restart. Hamilton and Verstappen, on the other hand, collided at the second corner. Particles of the car flew into the air after the impact. “He didn’t leave me space,” complained the Dutchman, who also attacked him uncompromisingly. Both pilots crashed in Brazil last year. Hamilton even crowned a crazy race all weekend with a Grand Prix success.

Verstappen received a new pit stop and a five-second penalty for the accident. “Where was I supposed to go?” complained the Red Bull star. Hamilton, on the other hand, could continue.

Alfa-Sauber-Man stands in the way

Meanwhile, an employee from Alfa-Sauber caused a moment of shock. Sky footage showed an employee of the Hinwil racing team standing in the way rather dangerously as Mick Schumacher pitted. The pits of both teams were right next to each other.

In the end, however, Alfa-Sauber was happy: Valtteri Bottas was ninth, teammate Zhou Guanyu missed out on points with 13th place. Thanks to Bottas’ points, the Swiss racing team gained a point in the battle for 6th place in the constructors’ classification against Aston Martin.
