Amazon invests six billion Swiss francs in Switzerland

Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of the American technology giant, opened three new Swiss data centers on November 9. Amazon plans to invest CHF 5.9 billion over the next 15 years in Switzerland’s so-called “infrastructure region”. According to the American group, these investments will improve technology services and create jobs.

Besides building data centers and their operation, the billions invested also flow into the purchase of goods and services from regional companies. AWS estimates that this will create an average of 2,500 full-time positions with third-party providers annually. In addition, the company projects that the new “infrastructure region” will add more than CHF 16 billion to gross domestic product over the next 15 years beep Switzerland will contribute.

The Seattle-based tech giant is not announcing the exact location “for security reasons.” However, it states that they are in the Zurich area.
