Selina Rutz-Büchel announced her resignation due to health issues.

Swiss 800m record holder Selina Rutz-Büchel ends her career. A thirty-one-year-old man has to say goodbye to top sport after a long-term illness with Covid. A ray of hope followed the birth of her daughter last April. The Toggenburg native wanted to fight her way back to the top of the world as a mother, but her health no longer allows it.

“Due to persistent health problems, I have decided to quit top sport. Pursuing my passion gave me amazing experiences and allowed me to grow as a person,” he says of his resignation.

Rutz-Büchel goes, the record remains

The 10-time Swiss champion had a special year in 2015. She was crowned European champion at the European Indoor Championships in Prague, before setting a Swiss record of 1:57.95 at the Diamond League meeting in Paris, which still stands today. Two years later, she shone again indoors when she successfully defended her European indoor title in Belgrade with a Swiss record in the final.
